Fook Hwa TanFaith · Clarity · ServiceAbout me
My journey moves between technology and people, Chinese and Dutch, professional leadership and church life. The common thread is simple: I want what I know to be useful to others.
The person behind the profile
I studied Computer Science and Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam—two disciplines that taught me to see systems as both technical and human. That combination has stayed with me throughout my career.
Information security fascinates me because it touches almost everything: technology, behaviour, law, physical environments, leadership and trust. I enjoy finding the overview, asking the question beneath the question, and turning complex demands into a path people can actually follow.
I believe expertise should make people feel more capable—not smaller in the face of complexity.
Outside the professional sphere, faith gives my life its deepest orientation. Serving church across leadership, pastoral care and translation has taught me that listening is often the beginning of good leadership. Since 2023 I have also been studying Bible Theology at the Evangelisch College—because learning should never stop at the office door.
At home I am a husband and a father of two daughters. And when the laptop closes, you may find me at the piano: playing, singing, and slowly learning to write music of my own.
Values in practice
Make the complex understandable. Give people enough perspective to choose with confidence.
Build bridges across disciplines, cultures and languages. Progress rarely happens in a silo.
Lead with patience and truth. See the person before the role, system or problem.
What anchors me
Every year I revisit a personal life plan: not a productivity trick, but a way of being honest about what matters most. Five goals keep returning.
Faith comes first, and the order matters: God, then caring well for myself so I can care well for the people entrusted to me—family, church, friends and colleagues.
Words I keep close
“A leader is best when people barely know he exists… when his work is done, they will say: we did it ourselves.”
— Lao Tzu
不怕慢,就怕停
“Do not fear growing slowly; fear only standing still.”
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.”
— C.T. Studd
The journey so far
I have moved from consulting and auditing to team leadership, organisational quality and training—always close to the practical question of how organisations can stay secure without losing sight of their purpose.
